Welcome to the Village is the first session in our Community Labs series, a programme of nine creative gatherings building towards a community exhibition.
This first session is all about arriving, getting to know each other, and starting to build the trust that everything else grows from.
Expect warm conversation, a creative icebreaker, refreshments, and a simple activity that centres who you are and where you come from.
-
Everyone is welcome.
This session has been created with Black and Global Majority communities, women and gender-diverse people, young people, older adults, migrants, refugees, and anyone who has ever walked into a wellbeing or creative space and felt it was not quite made for them.
If that sounds like you, this is your space.
-
None at all. You do not need to be creative, artistic, or experienced in anything. You just need to show up as you are. That is the whole point.
-
This event is free to attend. If you are able to contribute, you can choose to pay £5 when you register. If cost is a barrier, simply select the free ticket. No one will ask you about it and no explanation is needed.
-
The session runs for approximately three hours and follows a simple, consistent structure. Refreshments are available when you arrive. We open with a welcome circle, move into a creative icebreaker, then a guided activity, small group conversations, and a short reflection before we close. Nothing is compulsory. You can participate at whatever level feels right for you.
-
Just yourself. Wear something comfortable. Refreshments are provided. If the session notes mention bringing an object from home, that will be stated clearly in your confirmation email.
-
Yes. The venue is step-free. If you have a specific access requirement such as hearing support, a quiet space, dietary needs, or anything else, please note it when you register or email us at info@donsnile.co.uk before the event and we will make sure everything is in place.
-
Yes. If you would feel more comfortable coming with someone, bring them along. Just make sure they register their own place as spaces are limited.

Welcome to the Village is the first of nine Community Labs running across 2026.
Each session builds on the last. The series concludes with a community exhibition open to the public, featuring artwork, stories, and creative work made throughout the programme.
Attending this first session means you are part of something from the very beginning.
-
A photographer may be present at this event. You will be asked for your written consent on arrival before any photograph is taken. You are under no obligation to be photographed and your choice will be respected completely.
-
Please cancel your Eventbrite ticket as soon as you know so we can offer your place to someone else.
